KJCCC Cross Country Runners of the Week - Week 3
COLBY, Kan. – A win and course record setting performance from Fort Hays Tech Northwest along with a fourth-place finish and the top-NJCAA female athlete in the Fort Hays State Tiger open for Garden City’s Meryeme Mai have led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for week three.
COLBY, Kan. – A win and course record setting performance from Fort Hays Tech Northwest along with a fourth-place finish and the top-NJCAA female athlete in the Fort Hays State Tiger open for Garden City’s Meryeme Mai have led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Cross Country Runner of the Week honors for week three.
Meryeme Mai (Garden City) – Mai finished fourth in the 5K with a time of 18:39.30, the top time on a 5K course this week by a KJCCC athlete while helping the Lady Broncbusters to a second-place team finish at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open on Friday morning. Only one other KJCCC runner finished in the top 10 of the meet with Mai’s time a full 45 seconds faster than any other KJCCC runner this week in either of the two meets that the conference had runners compete in.
Kabelo Maja (Fort Hays Tech Northwest) – Maja topped the 49-runner field at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open on Friday morning by setting a course record by finishing the four-mile course in a time of 19:57.20, the only runner to run under 20 minutes. Only one other runner from the KJCCC finished in the top five of the meet as Fort Hays Tech Northwest finished second in the team scoring behind only host Fort Hays State University.
