2024 KJCCC Softball Division II Athletes of the Week, Wk. 5

KJCCC Division II Softball Player of the Week

Johnson County freshman Jaylee Jefferson had a fantastic weekend for the No. 12-ranked Lady Cavaliers, helping them to four big victories. She hit .636 (7-for-11) with three doubles, three home runs, three walks, eight runs scored, two stolen bases and 11 RBI. Six of her seven hits went for extra bases. In the opening 21-0 win over Moberly Area, Jefferson drove in five runs in the second inning with an RBI double and a grand slam. She followed with a solo home run in a 10-7 upset win over No. 5 Murray State. The next day, in a 20-4 victory over State Fair, Jefferson belted a two-run homer in the second inning and drove in two more with a double in the fourth. She also singled in the game, drew a walk, and stole a base. She capped the weekend with an RBI double in a 14-0 win over Missouri State-West Plains.

Johnson County freshman right-handed pitcher Maria Unverzagt started in the circle against Moberly Area and allowed just three hits and no runs over four innings of work. She also struck out four batters. With the victory, Unverazgt improved to 3-0 on the season.
