KJCCC Division 1 Softball Players of the Week - Week 4
COLBY, Kan. – A perfect 4-0 week that saw all four wins come by run-rule for Garden City Community College has led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division 1 Softball Player of the Week honors for Maria Avendano Fori and Yina Ballesta Vargas.
Maria Avendano Fori – Garden City (KJCCC Division 1 Softball Player of the Week)
Avendano Fori helped lead a Broncbuster offense that erupted for 60 runs over four games last week by hitting .714 (11-14) with seven extra-base hits which included five home runs. Driving in 15 runs, Fori also scored 11 times and stole two bases while slugging 1.929 for the week. Avendano Fori currently leads the KJCCC in both home runs and RBI with her 25 runs driven in currently ranking 21st among NJCAA D1 softball players.
Yina Ballesta Vargas – Garden City (KJCCC Division 1 Softball Pitcher of the Week)
Vargas was electric in the circle last week, throwing a five-inning no-hitter against Frank Phillips College and striking out nine to pick up her second pitching win of the season before following up the performance to end the week with a one-hitter against Trinidad State in a 15-0, five-inning Broncbuster win. For the week, Vargas struck out 15 and allowed four total base runners over 10 innings played.
