First NJCAA Softball Regular Season Rankings Feature Three KJCCC Teams
NJCAA Division 1 Softball Week 1 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Softball Week 1 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – After the first month of play across the NJCAA softball landscape, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has three teams ranked in the first NJCAA Softball Division 1 and 2 polls of the regular season with rankings being released on Monday, February 24th.
Two of the three ranked teams are in the NJCAA Division 2 poll with Johnson County ranked number 19 and Kansas City Kansas holding the number 20 ranking as the Cavaliers have played nine games this season which includes six games against teams ranked or receiving votes in the first regular season polls including the top-ranked teams in both the NJCAA Division 1 Softball Poll (Indian River State College) and NJCAA Division 2 Softball Poll (Jones College). Kansas City Kansas is the lone KJCCC among either the Division 1 or Division 2 schools that have yet to get their season started as their season-opening series against Kankakee Community College this past weekend was canceled which has led to the Blue Devils seeing their season now set to begin on Friday, February 28th against McCook Community College.
As for the NJCAA Division 1 Softball Top 25 poll, Butler Community College is the lone representative from the KJCCC by holding the same ranking as their preseason ranking at number 14 with the Grizzlies off to a 4-0 start to their season. The four wins for Butler came over Valentine’s Day weekend against four different foes, including Division 1 number 16 ranked Paris Junior College and Division 1 number 17 ranked Seminole State College (Oklahoma) as the Grizzlies are next set to be in action on Thursday afternoon against Labette Community College.
66 games across the conference are scheduled for this week which includes the start of conference play for KJCCC Division 1 schools as league action will begin on Wednesday, February 26th with Dodge City hosting Colby and Hutchinson hosting Pratt.
