Region VI Basketball Women's Championship Games Recap

Here is a quick recap of the two women's basketball championships on March 7 in Park City.

Region VI Division II Women's Championship

Park City, Kan. – The Highland Scotties entered the 2018 Region VI Basketball Championships undefeated, and left with the title after beating Johnson County 71-51 at Hartman Arena. 

Kamryn Lemon finished with 15 points, while Blaize Burgess was 4-for-5 from behind the arc and finished with 14 points.  The Highland bench contributed a combined 40 points in the win.  Johnson County was led by Tristen McFeders' 12 points.

The Scotties are now headed to their third national tournament in seven years, all under head Coach B.J. Smith. The tourney is March 20-24 in Harrison, Ark.

Region VI Division I Women's Championship

Park City, Kan. – Seward County used their trapping defense to defeat Independence 59-47 in the  Division I championship game at Hartman Arena.

The Saints were led by All-Conference star Mollie Mounsey, who had points. Silvia Veloso had a solid all-around game with 10 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.  Indy was led by 16 points and 12 rebounds from Alek Akuen.

Seward County advances to the national tournament in Lubbock, Tex. March 19-24.
