KJCCC Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Week 11
COLBY, Kan. – Strong shooting and 2-0 weeks for top five teams Hutchinson Community College and Johnson County Community College last week were led by the Week 11 Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women’s Basketball Players of the Week Landon Forbes and Tamia Smith.
Landon Forbes – Hutchinson (KJCCC Division 1 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Hutchinson Community College point guard Landon Forbes had her best week as a Blue Dragon in leading number five Hutchinson to a pair of wins last week. For the week, Forbes averaged 18.0 points and 5.0 assists per game in wins over Barton and Fort Hays Tech Northwest. The sophomore shot 52.5 percent from the field and sizzled from three-point range by hitting 12 of 19 shots from distance. Against Barton, Forbes scored a career-high 21 points, hitting seven three-pointers. The feat was only the 14th time in Blue Dragon history a player had at least seven made three-point field goals in a game. Against, Fort Hays Tech Northwest, Forbes had 15 points on five of six three-point shooting.
Tamia Smith – Johnson County (KJCCC Division 2 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Johnson County freshman guard Tamia Smith averaged a double-double of 14.5 points and 11.5 rebounds to lead the number two Cavaliers to a pair of victories last week. On Wednesday at number 14 Allen, Smith drained seven-of-10 shots including a 3-pointer to finish with a game-high 15 points. Smith also grabbed 10 rebounds in the game against the Red Devils before recording her fourth double-double of the season on Saturday in a 97-15 blowout over Labette by finishing with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
