COLBY, Kan. – For the second time this season, Barton Community College sophomore Vivian Onugha and Johnson County Community College freshman Layla Scott have earned Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors after leading their teams to 2-0 records last week.     

Vivian Onugha – Barton (KJCCC Division 1 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Vivian Onugha extended her streak of double doubles to 12 straight games averaging 20.5 points on 43.3 percent shooting from the field while hauling in 20.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals while averaging over 42 minutes of court time in a pair of Cougar victories last week. Onugha made her presence known in the opener against Cloud County by turning in a 24-point, 24 rebound performance marking the sixth time this season finishing over 20 rebounds to go along with a career-high tying four steals in the 64-59 win. The sophomore capped her week posting her 18th double-double of the year finishing with 17 points, 17 rebounds and dished out four assists in a 66-65 overtime road win at Cowley.

Layla Scott – Johnson County (KJCCC Division 2 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Johnson County freshman guard Layla Scott averaged 18.3 points, shot 50 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range to help lead the number two ranked Cavaliers to three victories last week and remain unbeaten at 23-0. Scott began the week with 15 points in a 78-32 win at Fort Scott and followed with back-to-back 20-point efforts in an 86-48 win over Saint Mary JV and a 104-30 victory Hesston. The freshman made 10 three-point field goals during the week to up her conference leading total to 81. Scott is currently on pace to become just the fifth JCCC player to make over 100 three-point baskets in a single-season.
