KJCCC Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Week 15
COLBY, Kan. – Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women’s Basketball conference leaders Dodge City and Johnson County have had players collect Player of the Week honors for week 15 with DC3’s Shorna Preston and JCCC’s Yar Manyiel collecting the final honors of February.
Shorna Preston – Dodge City (KJCCC Division 1 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Dodge City women's basketball continues to rack up the wins and picked up two more last week beating Colby and Fort Hays Tech. Shorna Preston continued to dominate and fill up the stat sheet as she posted 17 points on 7-10 shooting with eight rebounds, two assists, and six steals against Fort Hays Tech Northwest. The sophomore followed her performance up with 20 points on 7-13 shooting, eight rebounds, one assist, two steals, and two blocks against Colby in a 68-52 road win. During the week, Preston surpassed 500 rebounds in her career and ranks in the top 10 in program history in career rebounds, blocks, assists, and steals.
Yar Manyiel – Johnson County (KJCCC Division 2 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Johnson County sophomore forward Yar Manyiel had a tremendous week for the number two ranked Cavaliers as JCCC clinched an outright KJCCC regular season title. Averaging 14.5 points and 20.5 rebounds per game, Manyiel led JCCC to a pair of double-digit victories. The sophomore also connected on 59.1 percent of her shot attempts and had a 23-rebound effort against Ottawa University JV which ranks as fifth best in program history. Manyiel followed opening performance of the week with 12 points and 18 rebounds in Saturday's win over Fort Scott which moved Johnson County to 29-0 on the season.
