KJCCC Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Week 2
COLBY, Kan. – Wins over ranked opponents for both Dodge City and Highland women’s basketball last week not only helped the Conquistadors and Scotties move up in the latest NJCAA Women’s Basketball polls but also led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for Layla J-Cameron and Cameron McNamara.
COLBY, Kan. – Wins over ranked opponents for both Dodge City and Highland women’s basketball last week not only helped the Conquistadors and Scotties move up in the latest NJCAA Women’s Basketball polls but also led to Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for Layla J-Cameron and Cameron McNamara.
Layla J-Cameron – Dodge City (KJCCC Division 1 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Dodge City Women's Basketball season got off to a hot 3-1 start with three wins by 30-plus points including an 88-55 rout of number eight Odessa, while also challenging number seven New Mexico in a tough loss. Layla-J Cameron started her sophomore campaign strong averaging 20.5 points per game through the first four contests. Cameron opened the season with 18 points, four rebounds, two assists, and one steal vs Western Texas. She tallied 25 points in the big win over Odessa going 10-18 from the floor adding three rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Cameron followed that up with 23 points against New Mexico and 16 points in a win over Frank Phillips.
Cameron McNamara – Highland (KJCCC Division 2 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Cameron McNamara helped Highland to a pair of wins last week, defeating North Central Missouri 64-61 and Southwestern Iowa Community College 85-57. McNamara averaged 21 points per game and finished one rebound shy in both games of recording double-doubles as the Scotties are off to a 5-0 start to the season. Through 5 games, McNamara is averaging 20.8 points per game which ranks second in the KJCCC, and 7.3 rebounds per contest which is 5th in the league. Nationally, McNamara ranks 26 in points per game.
