KJCCC Women's Basketball Players of the Week - Week 9
COLBY, Kan. – With a record-breaking performance and two wins over NJCAA nationally ranked teams, Barton Community College sophomore Vivian Onugha and Johnson County Community College freshman Jamya McPherson have been named Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Women’s Basketball Players of the Week for Week nine of the 2024-25 season.
Vivian Onugha – Barton (KJCCC Division 1 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
It was a massive week for Barton's Vivian Onugha as the sophomore averaged 18 points and 24.5 rebounds in 36.5 minutes per game while helping the Cougars to a pair of victories. Onugha opened her week with a record-breaking performance grabbing 15 of her new program single game most 26 rebounds in second half action while adding 17 points for her 11th double-double of the year in the win over Fort Hays Tech Northwest. Onugha sustained the momentum out on the road, closing the week with her 12th double-double performance dropping 18 points and surpassing the 20-rebound mark for the sixth time this season with 23 rebounds in an overtime victory over Colby.
Jamya McPherson – Johnson County (KJCCC Division 2 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week)
Johnson County freshman guard Jamya McPherson averaged 15.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while leading the Lady Cavaliers to a pair of wins over top 20 ranked teams last week. In her team's 99-66 win over number 20 Neosho County, McPherson hit four-of-five three-point baskets while going six-of-nine from the field and made five-of-six free throw attempts for a game-high 21 points.
