Four of the seven teams that are ranked this week from the KJCCC hold top 10 rankings including three of the four from last week’s rankings with one newcomer to the top 10 in the NJCAA Division 2 women’s basketball poll as the Division 1 poll has an unchanged top 10 from a week ago.
Hutchinson extended their winning streak to 43 straight games after finishing their non-conference slate last week with a pair of wins to stay atop the NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Basketball poll after receiving all 12 first place votes while staking the claim of being the only 6-0 team in the KJCCC heading into conference play. Dodge City Community College is also unchanged from a week ago by holding the number nine spot in the week two rankings as the Conquistadors picked up a pair of blowout victories over Eastern Wyoming (94-51) and Laramie County (82-56) last week to finish non-conference play 5-1. After moving into the group of those receiving votes in last week’s top 25 poll, Butler finds their way into the rankings this week as one of two teams to join the poll this week by holding the number 24 spot in the rankings as the Grizzlies are 4-0 this season and have seen three of their four wins come by over 20 points.
In the latest Division 2 poll, Johnson County continues to maintain their spot as the number two team in the country after earning three more wins last week which included a pair of ranked victories over number 9 Palm Beach State and number 19 Rock Valley College. The Cavaliers are 8-0 this season and have won 42 of their past 43 games played with their lone loss coming to Kirkwood Community College in last year’s National Title game. One of the KJCCC’s three unbeatens remaining in Division 2 play, Highland makes a four-spot leap up into the top 10 to hold the number seven ranking this week as the Scotties earned a convincing 74-49 victory over previously ranked Iowa Western on the road last week ahead of a three-game week this week. HCC will host Southeast Community College on Tuesday before heading to Fort Dodge, Iowa to take on D3 number two ranked Anoka-Ramsey and Division 2 foe Iowa Central. On the Division 2 side, a pair of cross division top 10 battles will ensue with Highland taking on Division 3 number two Anoka Ramsey on Friday evening while Johnson County will take on Division 3 top ranked Rochester Tech on Saturday afternoon.
