Results From Top 10 Battles Lead To Changes For KJCCC Schools In Latest NJCAA Women's Basketball Polls
NJCAA Division 1 Women’s Basketball Week 8 Poll | NJCAA Division 2 Women’s Basketball Week 8 Poll
CHARLOTTE, NC – Battles of top 10 teams undefeated teams last week within the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has led to changes in both the NJCAA Division 1 and Division 2 Women’s Basketball polls as seven teams from the conference find themselves ranked in the week eight polls released on Tuesday, January 21st.
Among the seven ranked teams are three ranked teams within the NJCAA Division 1 poll while the NJCAA Division 2 poll features four teams with three holding different rankings from a week ago. In total, six of the seven ranked teams from the conference hold different rankings than they did the prior week.
Within the NJCAA Division 1 poll, Dodge City takes over as the highest-ranked KJCCC team by coming in at number four after dropping a 63-60 road decision to Coffeyville before bouncing back with a resounding 67-41 home win over previously unbeaten and top-ranked Hutchinson to end a 54-game winning streak for the Blue Dragons. With the loss, Hutchinson drops from number one down to number five as part of a massive shakeup that sees nine of the top 10 teams in this week’s poll hold a different ranking than the week prior. Coffeyville’s win over Dodge City last week moved the Red Ravens from those receiving votes into the top 25 by being ranked number 23, and CCC went on to finish their week with an overtime road win at Barton.
Johnson County is the lone unchanged team from the KJCCC this week as the Cavaliers remain number two in the NJCAA Division 2 poll after a pair of victories last week over Kansas City Kansas and previously unbeaten and number six Highland with JCCC earning a 72-54 win over the Scotties. Despite the loss to Johnson County, Highland falls just one spot down to seventh this week with a 17-1 overall record while Allen dropped three spots from 11th down to 14th after a road loss to Neosho County. The win by Neosho allows the Panthers to remain ranked this week at number 25 in the poll following a 1-1 week with NCCC dropping a home decision to Highland before their win over the Red Devils.
20 total games will take place this week within the conference beginning on Wednesday as Division 1 teams start the second half of their home-and-home schedule against one another while Division 2 action will be highlighted by a ranked matchup between number two Johnson County and number 14 Allen in Iola. Two games will take place on Thursday with Independence hosting Colby and Coffeyville hosting Fort Hays Tech Northwest. The week will conclude on Saturday with another ranked matchup in Division 2 action with Allen heading to Highland as part of a 10-game schedule across the league.
