Four KJCCC Wrestlers Win Individual National Titles, Fort Hays Tech Northwest Finishes Fourth In Team Race
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – Led by a fourth-place team finish from Fort Hays Tech Northwest, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference had four individual National Champions, and nine additional wrestlers finish in the top eight of their respective weight classes at the 2025 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships which took place March 7-8 inside the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Three of the four National Champion wrestlers came courtesy of the Tigers, as FHNW finished with a team total of 125.5 points to finish as the highest scoring team from the KJCCC. Fort Hays Tech had four wrestlers make it to the National Title match in their respective weight class with the three individual National Champions leading all 62 schools represented at the meet. Only six schools had a National Champion, and no other school had more than two champions.
Two other KJCCC teams earned top 12 finishes in the team scoring, with Pratt scoring 75.5 points to take ninth while Labette scored 67.5 points to finish in 11th. Both the Beavers and the Cardinals had three wrestlers finish in the top eight of their respective weight classes, including a National Champion for Pratt to become the sixth PCC wrestler in program history to bring home a National Title.
The National Champions for the KJCCC came in four consecutive weight classes as Fort Hays Tech Northwest’s Job Lee defeated Henry Dillingham of Clackamas College with a 5-3 decision by scoring a late takedown with 16 seconds remaining in the match to overcome a 3-2 deficit and win his first National Title after finishing one win shy of a top eight finish last season at the National Championship meet. Pratt’s Melton Powe followed at 165 pounds with a 4-1 decision victory over Asadbek Fayzullaev of Northwest Wyoming College, thanks in part to a third-period takedown to break a 1-1 tie.
At 174 pounds, Otgonbayar Batsuuri won his second-straight NJCAA National Title by earning a 14-1 major decision over Mohamed Tark Abdelhady of Indian Hills Community College as the sophomore won all five of his matches at the National Tournament by either fall, technical fall, or major decision. The 5-0 weekend for Batsuuri earned him the Ernest B. Gould Most Outstanding Wrestler Award at the National Tournament.
Finishing off the KJCCC’s run of National Champions was another wrestler from Fort Hays Tech Northwest, with Tiger 184-pound wrestler Lazaro Crespo jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead over Jauan East of Indian Hills Community College and never looking back as part of an 8-2 decision victory to become a National Champion after taking fourth at 184 pounds last season.
Nearly adding a fifth National Champion for the conference, Jeisser Sampson-Sanchez of Fort Hays Tech Northwest wrestled in the final match of the tournament and took on Dmarian Lopez of Western Wyoming in the 285-pound National Championship match as the top two seeds faced off. After a second-period reversal to break a scoreless tie, Sampson-Sanchez took a 2-1 lead into the third period before allowing an escape and takedown in the final two minutes to drop a 5-2 decision and finish as national runner-up.
