COLBY, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College recognizes Fort Hays Tech Northwest wrestler Otgonbayar Batsuuri for his performance at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Younes Hospitality Open as the 174-pound wrestler went undefeated in the Elite Division with four bonus point victories.
Batsuuri opened his day with a second-period fall over Talon McCollom of Air Force Prep before adding a 21-6 technical fall victory over Samuel Moore of Morningside College to advance to the quarterfinal round. In his next match against Logan Berger of Chadron State College, Batsuuri worked a pair of first-period takedowns to cruise to a 6-2 win after giving up only two points on escapes in the match and took down Garrett Bakarich of Colorado School of Mines with an 18-7 major decision to advance to the Championship match. Facing off against NCAA Division 2 number 10 ranked Kaden Hart of Nebraska-Kearney in the finals, Batsuuri opened a 6-1 lead after one period of action and added another takedown in the second period to earn an eventual 15-4 win to win the bracket with a major decision win.
This season, Batsuuri is 11-0 with eight wins by bonus points and is the number one ranked wrestler at 174 pounds in the NJCAA after winning the 2024 NJCAA Wrestling National Championship at 174 pounds last season.
To qualify for a top performance, a wrestler must finish in the top three of their bracket in an open tournament, defeat an NJCAA Nationally-Ranked Opponent, or have a significant win in a dual that helped their team within the team scoring as part of a team dual victory. Each school is required to submit its top performances each week in order to be recognized by the KJCCC as having a wrestling top performance from the prior week.
