KJCCC Wrestling Top Performances - Week 7
COLBY, Kan. – The Kansas Jayhawk Community College recognizes Barton Community College wrestlers Jarret Mader and Skyler McMullen for their top three finishes at the Barton Cougar Open this past Sunday as both wrestlers went 3-1 over the course of four matches.
Mader finished as the runner-up at 149 pounds, defeating Phillipp Mahn Nguyen of Fort Hays State by major decision (10-0) and Airoughn Morris of Northeastern Junior College by fall (1:35) to advance to the championship match where he faced off against Silas Thompson of Northeastern Junior College and fell by technical fall 17-1. As for McMullen, following an 8-7 decision defeat against Joe Zamora of Otero Junior College the sophomore bounced back with third period fall over Sebastian Rodriguez (Colby) and major 17-3 major decision win over teammate Ethan Boles to advance to the third-place match. In the third-place match, McMullen went on to earn another major decision win over a teammate in Colin Little to earn his third and final win of the day.
To qualify for a top performance, a wrestler must finish in the top three of their bracket in an open tournament, defeat an NJCAA Nationally-Ranked Opponent, or have a significant win in a dual that helped their team within the team scoring as part of a team dual victory. Each school is required to submit its top performances each week in order to be recognized by the KJCCC as having a wrestling top performance from the prior week.
