Colby's Anita Afrifa, Neosho County's Rusiate Matai Named NJCAA Indoor Track Athletes of the Week
CHARLOTTE, NC – Winners of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week honors on Tuesday, Colby Community College sophomore Anita Afrifa and Neosho County Community College freshman Rusiate Matai have each earned NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Athlete of the Week honors on Wednesday, February 12th.
Anita Afrifa (Colby) – NJCAA Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week
Colby Community College's Anita Afrifa had a standout performance at the Steve Miller Invitational, winning the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.30 seconds and dominated the 200 meters with a time of 23.26 seconds. Her 200 meters time is now the second-fastest ever in NJCAA history while her 60 meters time was the third-fastest in NJCAA history and .01 off her personal-best time. The sophomore also broke the Ghanaian national record in the 200 meters and set a new Colby school record, beating her own previous best.
Rusiate Matai (Neosho County) – NJCAA Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
Rusiate Matai set a new overall Fiji National Record by besting both the previous indoor and outdoor high jump records for the country. His mark of 2.10 meters (6 ft. - 10.75 in.) is the number two mark in the NJCAA this year while winning the meet that consisted mostly of NCAA Division 2 and highly ranked NJCAA programs.
