Garden City, KS-Pitching was the name of the game in the opener on Friday. But offense took center stage in the finale.
For the 17th time this season, Garden City collected 10 or more hits in a game, Kaylee Rogers knocked in a season-high five runs, and the Broncbusters blasted Northwest Tech 9-1 Friday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex.
Rogers began her offensive assault in the first. Following Madison Biller's RBI double, Rogers ripped an extra base hit of her own to the gap that plated two, putting Garden City up 3-0.
Rogers was at it again in the second.
Once Audrey Graf put the Broncbusters on top 4-0 with an RBI extra base hit, Rogers lasered a single to center that scored one to make it 5-0. Two innings later, Rogers smoked a two-run single to left before Vivian Lopez's run-scoring single stretched the lead to 8-0.
Meantime, the only blemish on Biller's stat line in the circle came in the Mavericks' fifth, when the freshman gave up a two-out single to Bre HIllin. Other than that, she was fantastic, scattering five hits in five innings.
Garden City finished off the run rule in their half of the fifth when Megan Jankiewicz doubled, and Ariel Denny singled to give the Broncbusters an eight-run lead.
Rogers recorded her sixth multi-hit game of the season for Garden City, who won for the third time in their last five games. Graf went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, and Brittany Dowell was 2-for-3.
Veronica Benetez took the loss for Northwest Tech, giving up nine runs on 13 hits in four innings.
