Josh Gooch, the current athletic director at Hutchinson Community College, serves as the assistant men's region director for Region 6.

Gooch became the Blue Dragon Athletic Department’s fifth Director of Athletics on July 1, 2015, and is in his third tenure with the Blue Dragons. The other two came as a member of the HutchCC football coaching staff. Gooch was the offensive coordinator from 2007 to 2011 and again in 2013.

Gooch left Hutchinson for the first time to become the head football coach at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa. After his return in 2013, Gooch left athletes for a season to work as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Actavis Pharmaceuticals.

On the field of competition, Blue Dragon teams have won 22 Jayhawk Conference championships, 11 Region VI titles, had 56 teams compete in national competition with national championships in men’s basketball (2017), men’s golf (2021 and 2022), football (2020-21) and women’s basketball (2024) and a national team runner-up in men’s basketball (2016).

Gooch has also overseen the renovation of the Hutchinson Sports Arena, a project that began midway through his first season on the job in 2016. Between that, new fundraising initiatives, all the other day-to-day business items, and navigating the Blue Dragon athletic department through the Coronavirus pandemic in Spring 2020, Gooch’s first eight seasons at Hutch have been challenging, but successful.

Gooch has a long history with the Jayhawk Conference. In addition to his time at Hutchinson Community College, Gooch has also been part of successful football programs in the conference at Coffeyville and Fort Scott.

Gooch was also an Assistant to the Athletic Director at Fort Hays State for three years.

Gooch is a native of Wellington, Kansas. He was a standout football player and wrestler at Wellington High School. He played linebacker at Coffeyville Community College and then at Fort Hays State University. Gooch was also a two-time wrestling All-American at Fort Hays State, placing seventh in 1995 and third in 1996 at the NCAA Division II wrestling championships.

Gooch has a bachelor's degree in communications and a master's degree in sports administration from Fort Hays State

Gooch is married to the former Kandy Ubben of Phillipsburg, Kansas. The couple has two children, Aubrey (A.J.) and Avery.
