Despite Aaliyah Chambers' 21 points and five assists, the Colby Community College women's basketball team fell to Butler Community College Wednesday night in El Dorado, 82-39.
The Trojans opened the season's first Jayhawk Conference contest on a 10-2 run. A few buckets and free throws by the Grizzlies allowed them to go on a run of their own, taking a 13-12 lead at the end of the first and never looking back. A robust Butler defense added to Colby's struggles, as they outscored the Trojans 48-18 in the second half.
Butler's balanced attack was led by Kaylee Nero's 15 points. Bench points played a major factor, as the Grizzlies outscored Colby 35-3.
The Trojans are back on the road to eastern Kansas on Saturday to face Independence Community College at 2 p.m. The game will be streamed on Open Spaces Sports.
