Freshman performances highlighted Sunday's sweep in the Barton Community College softball team's 7-2 and 8-0 victories hosting Dodge City Community College.
Barton improves to 8-0 in conference action and 11-5 overall with Dodge City slipping to 3-3 in league and 6-12 overall.
The Cougars are back in action Tuesday with a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at Cowley College before returning to conference play in Saturday's 1:00 p.m. first pitch at Pratt Community College.
Getting another game one dominant performance by Meleia Ingram tying a career high 11 strikeouts, Barton plated six in the fourth inning leading to the victory highlighted by fellow freshman Laney Wood's 3-run home run for her first collegiate fence clearer.
In the nightcap, Barton began with four consecutive hits resulting in a three-run first frame, putting the game away in the fifth scoring four, run-rule clinching tallies. Chloe Enslinger's 6th home run of the season led off the inning as four batters later, freshman Morgan Thatcher's lined shot to left marked her collegiate first home run on walk-off fashing driving in the final three plate crossers.
Ingram improved to 6-2 from the opener on 5 hits and 2 walks to go along with the 11 fannings with Brooklynn Angielski shutting down the Conqs in game two on 3 hits, zero walks, and struck out 5 improving to 4-2 on the year.
In addition to the freshman heroics, Elina Bartlett led four sophomores with multi-hits in the twinbill connecting on four doubles within her 5-of-6 plate performance.
Enslinger added a double to her day finishing at 2-for-4 with a team tying best 3RBI, Aly Lawrence drove in two on her pair of hits, and Mia Mascarenas' pair of hits also added a run producer.
