Ottumwa, IA – The preseason slate for the 2021-22 Indian Hills Men's Basketball program gets underway Friday as the Warriors head to Fort Worth, TX for the Dallas Blowout Jamboree. The Warriors play three games on Friday at the Game On Sports Complex.
Head coach Hank Plona sees the early preseason trip as an opportunity to build as a team. "We are excited about the trip to Dallas. I always think multiple day trips are a good thing in the preseason. We are able to spend some time with each other, and continue to grow as a group. We are playing three outstanding and talented teams in Grayson, Coffeyville, and Salt Lake, so we will see how we stack up against them as well."
The three-game schedule for the Warriors is part of a 90-game lineup over the course of the weekend featuring some of the top National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) programs. Teams from 12 states, including five of the final eight programs from last year's national tournament will appear in front of four-year recruiters.
"We have 13 healthy bodies and I am looking forward to seeing everyone in game competition," Plona added. "Our goal is to play as hard as possible, and try to play as smart and together as we can in early October while doing that. If we compete and play hard, good things will always happen for us."
The Warriors' opponents feature three competitive programs. Indian Hills will take on Grayson College (TX), a team that went 19-3 in the competitive NJCAA Region V last year, at 4:00 PM. At 5:00 PM, the Warriors take on Coffeyville Community College (KS), the defending NJCAA DI National Champions. Plona's squad finishes out the night with a matchup against Salt Lake Community College (UT) at 7:00 PM. The Bruins made a national tournament appearance last season.
The jamboree is the start to a challenging preseason schedule for the Warriors. Indian Hills will head to Orlando, FL Oct. 15-16 to play in the All-American Jamboree, another opportunity for the Warriors to showcase their talents against top competition.
Stay up-to-date with GoHillsTV on Monday, Oct. 11 for Plona's press conference to discuss the Warriors' performance in Texas and the remainder of the preseason schedule.
