#6 Trojans sweep the Colby Volleyball Classic

COLBY, Kan. -- The Colby Trojans recently hosted a Volleyball Classic at the Colby Event Center on September 13th and 14th, featuring four schools: the Trojans, Iowa Western Community College, Otero College, and Lamar Community College. In a series of three matches, the Colby Trojans emerged victorious, winning three consecutive matches and sweeping their competition. Colby improved to 13-1 overall and remains 3-0 in the KJCCC. This impressive performance propelled the Trojans to the No. 6 ranking in the latest NJCAA volleyball rankings. Following their successes, the Colby Trojans are gearing up to face Seward County Community College on September 21st at 2:00 PM CDT.

Colby vs Otero (9/13):

The Trojans showcased their dominance against Otero College by securing a convincing 3-0 victory, 25-8, 25-7, and 25-16.

Leading the charge for the Trojans was Celia Mbaya, who delivered an impressive performance with 14 kills. Amanda Caputi played a crucial role with 33 assists, while Chiara Binda showcased her defensive prowess with five blocks.

Colby vs Iowa Western (9/14):

The Trojans continued their winning streak with a 3-0 sweep of Iowa Western, with scores of 25-19, 25-13, and 25-21. The team displayed a potent offense, boasting a hitting percentage of .361. Karlotta Kattai led the team with 14 kills, supported by Celia Mbaya and Viola Giangreco with 12 and five, respectively.

Overall, The Trojans' solid defense led them to a decisive victory. 


Colby vs Lamar (9/14):

In their final match of the night against Lamar on September 14, the Trojans maintained their winning momentum with a 3-0 win. The scores of 25-8, 25-18, and 25-18 reflected Colby's dominance on the court.

The Trojans had a hitting percentage of .303. Celia Mbaya continued to shine with 12 kills, while Alexandra Workman and Viola Giangreco contributed 8 and 9 kills, respectively. Amanda Caputi showcased her skills as a setter with 38 assists and 10 digs, while Chiara Binda stood out with 6 kills and 4 digs.

Colby enters their Sept. 21 road game with Seward County on a nine-game winning streak, including 20 consecutive set victories since Aug. 31.
