
Broncbuster men take fourth at Jayhawk Championships
Newton, KS-The Broncbuster men's golf team finished fourth, and Anthony DeSchutter and Joshua Balson-Scales tied for seventh at the 2023 Jayhawk Conference Championships at Sand Creek Station on Tuesday.
The Broncbusters shot a collective 43-over par, finishing six strokes back of third-place Barton County. DeSchutter and Balson-Scales were each 4-over, which was just four shots back of third place Worathan Thammachokecharoen from Barton.
After shooting back-to-back 74s in the first two rounds, DeSchutter found his groove on Tuesday, specifically on the back nine. After shooting 2-over on the front, the sophomore rallied with bridie putts on 12 and 13. He then saved par on the final five holes to finish even for the round.
Balson-Scales low score came during Monday's second round where he tallied a tournament best, 71. But he was 3-over on Tuesday with back-to-back bogeys on 16 and 17.
Tiaan Diedericks, who was tied for third after his first-round 72, found trouble late Monday when he shot a 9-over 81. He was 6-over on Tuesday.
Meantime Akarachai Sakunlee was 32nd at 21-over par, Jackson Koksal tied for 35th at 25-over, and Cody Cundiff came in 46th.
Hutchinson won the team championship and Alex Lindstrom took first individually at 4-under.
