Lady Cougars warm up to season high output in Goodland.
It took a quarter for the Barton Community College women's basketball team to get warmed up Saturday in Goodland before running away with a 100-55 victory at Fort Hays Tech Northwest.
The Cougars led by just three after the first stanza, increasing the margin out to nineteen points by the halftime break, then piled on 56 second half points for a season high output powered by a season tying most 10 three-pointers (10-17).
Barton improves to 9-12 in conference play and 13-14 overall while Fort Hays Tech drops to 1-21 in league and 1-25 on the season.
Three games remain with the next being the Cougars' last regular season home contest coming Wednesday hosting Colby Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip. Barton's quest for a first round home playoff game then continues with a pair of road contests to conclude the regular season, Saturday at Independence Community College followed by a return trip to southeast Kansas for Wednesday's finale at 16th ranked Coffeyville Community College.
Posting her 17th straight and 23rd double-double of the season, Vivian Onugha finished with 26 points and 17 rebounds with a pair of assists and a game high 3 steals.
Half of the Cougars' three-pointers came off the hands of Brittany Simpson knocking down a career high 5 arc busters (5-of-6) for 15 points.
Three additional Cougars reached double figures, Regina Donanu and Alaina Eck each with 12 points while Eva Clements added 10 points in resetting her career high for the second straight contest.
The Cougars had 23 assists on their 34 made buckets led by the career high distributions from Charolette Delisle's game high 6 dimes and Keyona Hall's 5 bucket setups.
Fort Hays Tech was led by Traysha Newsome's 17 points and 5 assists with Sarah Elfrey adding 12 points.
