COLBY, Kan. - Colby Community College went down to Midland, Texas, and left with a perfect 4-0 weekend. Colby fought in their first match of the season against Panola College last Friday but ultimately prevailed in the fifth set 15-8. The Trojans highlighted the victory accorded on Saturday morning as they took down No. 10 New Mexico Junior College in straight sets. No. 18 Colby will travel to Laramie County Community College on August 30th for four matches, starting with No.3 Northeastern Junior College at 12:30 pm CT.

Colby vs. Panola College 8/23

On Friday, August 23, Colby Community College defeated Panola College 3-2 in a thrilling five-set match.

The match was closely contested, with both teams putting up an intense fight in each set. Colby Community College took the first set 25-23, but Panola College responded and won the second set 25-14. The teams continued to trade sets, with Colby Community College ultimately prevailing in the fifth set with a score of 15-8.

Colby Community College's Celia Mbaya led the team with 15 kills, while Karlotta Kattai and Viola Giangreco contributed 16 and 12 kills, respectively. Amanda Caputi provided 50 assists for the team, showcasing her playmaking abilities on the court.

The season opener was a great test of will and talent, and the Trojans prevailed in five. Colby improved to 1-0 on the year and looked to take on Lee College later that day. 

Colby vs. Lee College 8/23

In a dominating performance, Colby Community College defeated Lee College in straight sets with 25-14, 25-12, and 25-10 scores in Midland, Texas.

Colby Community College displayed an impressive offensive performance, hitting at a .347 percentage as a team. Karlotta Kattai led the way with 13 kills, while Viola Giangreco added nine of her own. Amanda Caputi facilitated the offense with 31 assists.

Celia Mbaya led the Trojans with 16 digs, while Hédi Mayerhof and Karlotta Kattai contributed with two blocks each.

Overall, Colby Community College's strong offensive performance and solid defense proved to be too much for Lee College to handle, resulting in a convincing victory for Colby.

Colby vs. New Mexico JC College 8/24

Colby had an early match against No. 10 New Mexico Junior College on Saturday at 8 AM CT. The Trojans emerged victorious in straight sets with a final set score of 25-12.

Colby Community College dominated the match, winning all three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-23, and 25-12. They displayed a solid offensive performance, with 51 kills and an impressive hitting percentage of .274. Karlotta Kattai led the team with 20 kills, while Celia Mbaya contributed 13.

Colby's solid offensive performance and efficient defense led to a convincing victory over the No. 10 Thunderbirds. 

Colby vs. Midland College 8/24

The No. 18 Trojans finished the weekend with a dominant victory over the host Midland College in straight sets. The final scores were 25-18, 25-15, 25-16 in favor of Colby.

Colby's offense was firing on all cylinders, with a hitting percentage of .322 compared to Midland's .101. Viola Giangreco led the Trojans with 12 kills, while Karlotta Kattai added 15, and Celia Mbaya contributed ten. Amanda Caputi orchestrated the offense with 44 assists.

Defensively, Colby was equally impressive, with Camila Canedo leading the team with 24 digs. The team also had a strong presence at the net, recording eight total blocks.

Overall, Colby Community College's strong offensive and defensive performance proved too much for Midland College to handle, resulting in a convincing victory for Colby.

The Trojans concluded the weekend with a 4-0 record, including a top-ten win over the No. 10 Thunderbirds. Colby will now travel to Laramie Community College for matches starting on Friday at 12:30 PM CT vs. Northeastern Junior College. For the complete schedule, visit the links below.
