Barton women’s season ends in Quarterfinals, 7th ranked Dodge City pulls away in fourth quarter.
The Barton Community College women's basketball team had their 2025 season come to an end Tuesday night on the road falling 72-40 to 7th ranked Dodge City Community College in the quarterfinal round of the Region 6/Plains District Tournament.
Falling behind by eleven just five minutes into the contest, the Cougars fought back to draw within five late in the first half before going to the break down seven at 29-22.
Six minutes into second half play, Barton's seven point deficit was as slim as the margin would be as Dodge City put the hammer down behind 7-of-20 second half three-point shooting helping outscore the Cougars by twenty-four points in the last fourteen minutes.
Barton concludes the season at 16-16 with Dodge City advancing to Friday's 1:00 p.m. semifinal versus 25th ranked Butler at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays.
In the Cougars' lowest output of the 98-game series versus the Conquistadors, just two players reached double figures led by Vivian Onugha closing out her stellar Barton career on game highs 22 points, 7 rebounds, and career high 5 steals while also adding 2 of the team's 8 assists.
Regina Donanu added 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists as no other Cougar scored more than two points.
Savi Mi led a balanced Dodge City scoring with 13 points and 6 rebounds as Shorna Preston and Mia Jordan each contributed 10 points each.
