Iowa Central pushed the advantage to 3-1 in the second half with 29 minutes to go. SFCC refused to go away though, when freshman Yves terson Exavier found a loose ball in the box and tapped it in to bring the Roadrunners within one.
SFCC continued to battle but could not find the equalizer in the final minutes.
Tafani got the start in goal for SFCC.
"We got off to a great start in the game," said Poropat. "We had a lapse of concentration in the last five minutes of the first half, which caused us to concede two goals. Iowa Central is well coached. I knew they would be well prepared. It is tough to win games at any level when you cause your own headaches."
