
Garden City explodes for 22 runs in game-one victory over Tigers
Goodland, KS-Chiara Olison had a career-best four hits, Reagan Sword and Julissa Galicia each drove in three runs, and Garden City topped Fort Hays Tech Northwest, 22-9 in game on Wednesday afternoon.
Yina Ballesta Vargas picked up the win in the circle, holding the Tigers scoreless over three solid innings. She struck out five.
The Broncbusters, which won their third straight game to improve to 12-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play, started strong scoring five runs in the first, anchored by Keiry Abreu's two-run homer. Maria Avendano Fori went yard in the second, Garden City tagged on two more runs in the third and three in the fourth, and Belinda Hendrix's team was up, 10-0.
The Tigers kept the run-rule out of play with a four-run fourth inning. They added five more in the fifth to make things interesting.
But Garden City put the game out of reach in the final two frames. Daryelin Rivas Chavez led off the sixth with a solo shot, and Maysen Kurene-Iwikau and Sword doubled as part of a six-run seventh.
Jaso Haven took the loss for Fort Hays Tech Northwest (0-13, 0-7), allowing 11 runs on 13 hits in 3 1/3.
