Barton women lead throughout behind defensive win over Garden City.
Scoring Saturday's first four points the Barton Community College women's basketball team never looked back in a big 64-41 matinee victory hosting Garden City Community College.
The Cougars increased their lead out to as many as eleven heading into an eventual 28-19 halftime break then put the Broncbusters in the taillights outscoring the visitors 23-4 in the third frame to salvage the season series.
Shooting over 50% for the afternoon and controlling the paint for a twenty-eight point differential, defensively Barton forced 24 Garden City turnovers and allowed just 30.4% shooting overall, a mere 1-of-12 field goals in the third frame holding the Broncbusters to just one field goal in an eight minute span of the contest.
Barton improves to 5-9 in KJCCC play and 9-11 overall while Garden City drops their third straight falling to 6-8 in league play and 9-10 overall.
The Cougars wrap up their brief two-game homestand Wednesday evening hosting Cloud County Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip with a Saturday trip to Cowley College to follow.
Four Cougars reached double-figure scoring being led by Vivian Onugha's season high 26 points, to go along with, 12 rebounds for her 10th straight and 16th overall double-double performance.
Matching her career high last time on the floor, Regina Donanu added 12 points in reaching double-digits for the 10th straight game.
Alaina Eck finished with 11 points while Brittany Simpson contributed 10 points including draining 2-of-4 behind the arc. Getrude Mapiye continued her improved play giving the Cougars a solid 5 points, 7 rebounds, and a career high 4 assists to lead all players.
Jolie Mantz's 10 points was the lone Broncbuster to reach double figures as leading scorer and rebounder Antonicia Moultre was held in check with 8 points and 7 rebounds.
