Big inning powers Garden City to a sweep of Colby
Garden City, KS-Daryelin Rivas Chavez homered and drove in four runs, Chiara Olison scattered just two earned runs over five innings, and Garden City run ruled Colby, 11-3 in game two Wednesday afternoon at Tangeman Sports Complex.
Olison finished 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored for the Broncbusters, which won for the third time in four games to improve to 17-13 overall and 8-7 in the Jayhawk. Julissa Galicia knocked in three runs.
Garden City broke open a 2-1 game with a massive third inning fueled by Rivas Chavez's grand slam that gave the Broncbusters a 10-3 edge. It was all part of an eight-run frame that included Galicia's two-run single and Maysen Kurene-Iwikau's RBI base hit.
Olison then helped her own cause with a solo shot in the fourth.
Meantime the sophomore hurler yielded just two hits over the final two innings as Garden City moved four games over .500. They are now a game back of Dodge City for fourth in the conference standings.
