Colby defeated Cowley 61-49 on Saturday afternoon
The Trojans improve to 8-4 on the season and 3-3 in KJCCC action.
COLBY, Kan. - Colby Community College won their second straight KJCCC game with a 61-49 victory over Cowley College last Saturday at the Colby Event Center. The Trojans improve to 8-4 on the season and 3-3 in KJCCC action. Colby jumped out to a 15-0 lead in the first quarter and never gave up the lead.
The Trojans used their always-stingy defense to hold the high-scoring Cowley Tigers down. Cowley is one of the nation's leading three-point field goal-shooting teams. The Trojans' defense never allowed Cowley to get in a rhythm, keeping them well under their per-game scoring average of 85 points. Holding the Tigers to 49 points, the Trojans were 36 points under their average. With a defensive effort like that, the Trojans allowed themselves to find ways to be successful on the offensive end.
"We really jumped out to a great start to the game and kind of held on from there. Defensively we were solid, but our rebounding needed to be better on securing the long rebounds from so many three point shot attempts. Offensively, we figured some things out and were able to attack their press and get to the basket. Our young group grew up some today, showing we can compete with anyone in this league. Back to work in hopes of closing out the first semester. " stayed Coach Spence
The Trojans will be on the road this week, taking on Butler Community College on Wednesday, December 11th, and Pratt Community College on Saturday, December 14th.
