Garden City powers past Pratt in game two
Garden City, KS-Karson Evans crushed his second homer of the season, Sean Philpotts knocked in three runs, and Garden City beat Pratt, 15-12 in game two Thursday night at Williams Stadium.
Ayden Burton earned his second win of the season, allowing one run on five hits over three innings of relief. Starter, Bradley Feezer gave up three earned runs on seven hits in two innings-his shortest outing of the season.
Philpotts hit a game-tying double in the fifth, and Evans gave Garden City the lead with an RBI fielder's choice to make it 10-9 in the fifth. He then smashed a two-run homer in the sixth, capping off a stretch in which Josh Oller's team scored nine unanswered runs to take a 15-9 lead.
A couple of early defensive miscues cost Garden City over the first two innings. Sage Hurley booted a ball at third that allowed the go-ahead run to score in the second. Later in the inning, Philpotts misplayed a ball in center field that gave Pratt a three-run lead. In the third, Kyle Reese teed off on Feezer, drilling a two-run homer to give the Beavers a 7-2 advantage.
The Broncbusters, which won their sixth straight game to improve to 16-12 overall and 5-5 in conference play, began their rally in the third when Cody Kilpatrick smacked an RBI double; then came around on a passed ball to trim the deficit to three. An inning later, both Kilpatrick and Roy Higinbotham drew bases-loaded walks, Phillpotts doubled home the tying run in the fifth, and Evans' scratched a run across with a slow roller to short that scored Sean Togher from third that gave Garden City the lead for good.
Colin Redeker took the loss for Pratt (6-26, 1-13) allowing five runs on five hits in two innings.
