Driessen, Moultrie, and Yancy combine for 70 as Broncbusters roll again
Garden City, KS-Sierra Driessen posted a near quadruple-double with 26 points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, and seven steals, Stevi Yancy drained five 3s, and Garden City rolled to a 96-69 victory over Pratt Sunday afternoon at Conestoga Arena.
"I'm happy for our players," Head Coach, Greg Franklin said afterwards. "These are the things that we work on every single day.
Antonicia Moultrie added 20 points, a season-best 17 rebounds, and seven steals for the Broncbusters, which won the battle on the glass 45-36 and grabbed 16 offensive boards, their second highest total this year.
"She (Moultrie) was very impressive," Franklin added. "But that's the way she plays. She's long and athletic, and she gets in there and battles. Even more than that, she guards. I mean, she had seven steals."
Moultrie was all over the place on both ends, helping fuel an offensive attack that put constant pressure on the Beavers' defense. Garden City scored the game's first seven points, led 14-4 after Sariah Conley found Moultrie for a layup, and were up 10 after one. Yancy then canned a 3-pointer 18 seconds into the second period to stretch the lead to 13.
"It's all about putting in the work, Moultrie said after the game. "Our team has put in the work, so, we knew what we had to do."
And her team left no doubt in this one.
Driessen got free for a layup, Yancy completed a three-point play; then knocked down a triple off a Driessen assist, and Garden City was up, 51-37 at the break.
"It's really fun to play for Coach Franklin," Moultrie explained. "He's very honest with us, which makes it fun."
The Broncbusters turned the game into a laugher in the fourth, outscoring the Beavers, 27-13. Ana Ramos Pires knocked down a two-footer in the paint to stretch the lead to 22. Moultrie added a layup in traffic moments later, Carly Lang made a free throw, and Garden City had its largest cushion of the day, 95-67 with 1:21 to play.
Pires finished with 13 points and six rebounds for Garden City (8-0, 3-0), which outscored Pratt, 54-32 in the paint. They also forced 22 Beaver turnovers, which led to 33 points.
Princess Anderson scored 30 points in 24 minutes off the bench for Pratt, which dropped to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in conference.
