The Colby Community College women's basketball team opened the season with a 78-70 win over the Northeastern Junior College Plainswomen on Tuesday night at the Colby Event Center.
The Trojans were down 17-18 after a slow first-quarter start but outscored their opponent 15-12 in the second frame to take a 32-30 lead to the locker room.
Third-year coach James Cole and his staff made adjustments at halftime and outdueled NJC in the second half 46-40 to get the win.
Colby's Aaliyah Chambers led all scorers with 30 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. Ri'yah Francis added 13 points and eight rebounds, and Kali Snow scored eight points and seven rebounds.
The Trojans shot 43.3% from the field and dished out 24 assists. Defensively, they held their ground, forcing 19 Plainswomen turnovers.
"They made a very exciting debut on the court and are definitely a team to watch closely as we continue to grow together throughout the season," said CCC Assistant Coach Jareica Hughes.
The Trojans return to action Saturday against Lamar Community College for a 2 p.m. tip at the Event Center.
