Broncbusters get revenge; take down Lamar in four
McCook-Neb-The Broncbusters served up a little payback on Saturday.
Apolline Lepuissant posted a career-high 25 kills, Carly Lang had 25 digs, and Garden City beat Lamar in four sets 27-25, 21-25, 29-27, and 25-21. The Broncbusters, who rebounded from Monday's four-set loss to the Lopes, improved to 8-5 overall.
This by no stretch was a runaway with all four sets going down to the wire.
The Broncbusters were down 23-20 in the opening set before Lepuissant started the rally with a kill down the line followed by Vitoria Stedile's service ace and a Lamar attack error that tied things up at 23. Pinar Dugeroglu's spike then gave Garden City the lead. And after the Lopes fought off a pair of set points, a net violation finally put the Broncbusters up 1-0.
Garden City led by as many as four in the second set and were up 20-18 late in the frame, but the Lopes closed on a 7-1 run capped by Gloria Isoefo's kill that evened the match.
The Broncbusters though responded by outlasting Lamar in a marathon third set before Lepuissant put the Lopes away in the fourth with six of her match-high 25 kills including the clincher on match point where the sophomore unleashed a rocket that Lamar failed to return.
Tola Maczka posted 46 assists for Garden City, her second highest total this season behind 59 vs. Arizona Western on Aug. 18. Stedile added 23 digs.
