The Fort Scott Community College Greyhounds used a strong second half to pull away from the Labette Community College Cardinals in Jayhawk Conference play on Saturday 61-51. In a tightly contested first half, the Hounds took the lead going into the break 23-21. There were multiple lead changes in the period as both teams struggled to get shots to fall. FSCC shot 30% from the field, and LCC 31%. FSCC Sophomore Peter Simon led the Hounds offense in the first half with 7 points.
The second half saw the Hounds take control with suffocating defense and a fast break offense. The Cardinals kept it close by erasing numerous Hound leads, even taking the lead for a brief period of time. However, the FSCC hit some key shots late, including a deep three by Simon as the shot clock was expiring to put a dagger in the heart of LCC. The Hounds largest lead of the game came with 5.1 seconds remaining.
The Hounds were led by Simon and Bullock who each scored 12 points on the game. Earnest Johnson led the Hounds with 10 total rebounds. The leading scorer for the Cardinals was Dialo with 13.
The Hounds will continue their conference schedule when they travel to Iola to face the Allen County Red Devils on Wednesday at 7:30pm.
