Broncbusters swept in Oklahoma
Wilburton, OK-Mistakes proved costly in Saturday's series finale.
The Broncbusters committed three errors, Dawson Price collected three hits and drove in two, and Eastern Oklahoma State completed a three-game sweep with a 10-5 victory over Garden City.
Broncbuster starter, Caleb Metzen, who dropped to 0-3 on the bump, didn't make it out of the third, allowing four runs on four hits in two innings of work.
Kaelen Bing clubbed his first homer of the season and drove in two runs for Garden City, which fell to 2-15 overall. Nick Barber finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
The Broncbusters spotted Metzen an early 2-0 lead thanks to Dawson Stutz and Joshua Miller, who each smacked RBI singles in the top of the first.
But Garden City gave it right back in the bottom half. Metzen walked Zeb Henry; then plunked John Sekich. Price followed with an RBI single, and Ruben Venter singled home one. Later in the inning, Venter scored on an error, and the Mountaineers had a 4-2 advantage.
Once Bing brought the Broncbusters within a single run with an RBI single in the third, the Broncbuster bullpen unraveled in the fourth.
Chase Demmler walked the bases loaded; then threw a wild pitch that allowed another run to score. Josh Oller then replaced Demmler with Dante Philip-Neri, who immediately threw a breaking ball that skipped a foot in front home plate allowing Henry to trot home from third. Two batters later, Price hit a run-scoring single, which was followed by Tyler Henrich's RBI base hit that made it 10-3.
Cyrus Kornegay picked up the win in relief for Eastern Oklahoma State, tossing three innings of one-run relief. He struck out four.
