Just find a way: Broncbusters come up big in the clutch

Dallas, TX-Cue the dramatics. 

Sean Togher struck out nine hitters, Preston Glatt knocked in the go-ahead run in the seventh, and Garden City erased a late deficit to beat McCook, 6-5 Friday morning at Z-Plex Sports Village.  

Togher has now recorded 16 punchouts in two starts this season. He allowed three runs on four hits in five innings. Noah Humphreys notched the win in relief, fanning three batters over two frames.  

Brittain Brewer broke a scoreless tie with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. An inning later, Sage Hurley singled; then scored on a passed ball. Sean Philpotts followed with an RBI single, and the Broncbusters had a 3-0 advantage.  

But after cruising along through five shutout innings, Togher ran into some trouble in the sixth. He plunked Maddox Shaver, gave up a run-scoring double to Cory Wouters, and served up a two-run homer to Dalton Berg that tied the game.  

Togher's day was done. 

Oller replaced his ace with Humphreys, who yielded an RBI base hit to Tyler Reyburn that gave the Indians a 4-3 lead. Though he did manage to bounce back after that with a pair of strikeouts to end the inning. 

Trailing by one and down to their final two outs in the seventh, Mason Tafoya laced a double to center field. Philpotts then tied the game with a single up the middle. Oller then inserted Glatt, who delivered a pinch-hit, line-drive extra base hit to left that put Garden City back on top, 5-4. Karson Evans followed with some insurance: a double to center that gave the Broncbusters a two-run cushion.  

McCook (0-3) made the Broncbusters sweat in the bottom half. The first two men reached before Owen Glover hit a sac fly that made it 6-5. But Humphreys never blinked, and with the tying run at second, the freshman struck out Connor Charvat on a breaking ball to end the game. 

The Broncbusters, which entered the seventh inning just 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position, got a pair of timely hits to improve to 4-1 for the first time since 2019.  

McCook starter, Leif Friedrich allowed one earned run over four innings. He struck out six.
