Balson-Scales takes third at Jayhawk No. 1; Broncbusters finish third
Manhattan, KS-The Broncbuster men's golf team finished third and Joshua Balson-Scales took third place at the first Jayhawk Tournament of the season on Monday at Colbert Hills.
Garden City posted a team score of 865 while Balson-Scales shot even over 36 holes, finishing just six strokes back of individual champion Blake Saffel from Dodge City.
After shooting 2-over through the first nine holes in the opening round, Balson-Scales birdied 11 and 17 to finish 2-over for the day. He followed that up with a magnificent second round where he dropped in four birdie putts, tying for the tournament-low score with a 68. He tallied a 2-over 74 in round three.
Tiaan Diedericks had a strong finish on Tuesday, posting one of his best scores of the season, a 1-under, 71 to finish tied for 17th. He had a season-best five birdies over the final 18 holes.
Anthony DeSchutter, who has won three tournaments so far this year, tied for 17th at 16-over. He bounced back from a 7-over in the opening round to post a 4-over 76 in round two followed by a 1-under, 71 on Tuesday. He finished 16-over.
Cadeny Cundiff took 29th at 23-over, Jackson Koksal was 31st at 27-over, and Akarachai Sakunlee tied for 33rd.
Hutchinson and Dodge City tied for the team title at 1-over par.
