Hutchinson, KS-The Broncbuster cross country teams opened the 2024 season at the Terry Masterson Twilight Classic.
The Garden City women's team placed fifth with 94 points and were led by Meryeme Mai, who had a stellar collegiate debut with a time of 18:41.2-good for fifth. Reid Harvy-McKean came in five seconds behind her in seventh place (18:46.1), Umahan Shain posted a 17th-place finish (20:09.4), Joscelyn Monarrez was 40th(22.25) and Beverlyne Kiptarus was 41st with a personal best 22:28.8.
Meantime, the men placed fifth with 152 points. They were led by Lucas Goasmat, whose ninth-place finish came with a personal-best time of 20:37.3. He was followed by Marc Corpus in 25th place (21:54.6), Kyle Moore in 29th (22:26.9), Wyatt Everts 52nd (24:27), Carson Schmidt 55th (24:35.7), Leo Sheldon 56th (24:35.8) and Alex Deloach 80th (27:56.7).
Garden City is back in action next weekend at the Fort Hays State Classic on Sept. 13.
