Garden City's offense goes cold late in game three loss
El Dorado, KS-Jackson Ellison collected two hits including the go-ahead single in the fourth, and Butler beat Garden City, 7-4 Saturday afternoon at McDonalds Stadium.
Garden City, which fell to 8-10 overall and 1-3 in conference, had a chance to break open a 4-4 tie in the fourth. But following Mason Tafoya's RBI double that tied the game, Sage Hurley flied out harmlessly to right field.
The Broncbusters never scored again. In fact, they produced just three hits over the final five innings.
Meantime, the Grizzlies took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth. Brady Todd drew a leadoff walk; took second on a wild pitch; then made it to third when Alex Coester grounded out. That was followed up with Ellison's go-ahead RBI base hit to make it 5-4.
Butler (10-6, 3-1) added some insurance in the eighth when Cooper Rasmussen tagged reliefer Chet Robinson for a two-run single to give the home team a 7-4 advantage.
It was an inauspicious start for Broncbuster hurler, Jackson Ray, who lasted only one inning. He allowed the first three batters to reach; then gave up a two-run double to Amarion Sailer. Breck Romero followed later in the inning with an RBI fielder's choice, and Butler was up 4-0.
