It was a rough week for the Colby Community College men's basketball team as they dropped a pair of close games. On Wednesday, the Trojans fell to the Garden City Broncbusters at the Colby Event Center 70-64 and then suffered a road setback on Saturday in Goodland against Northwest Kansas Technical College, 88-80.
Against Garden, the game saw seven ties and five lead changes. The Trojans jumped out to an early 8-2 advantage, but Garden City answered with a 22-9 run and took a 34-27 lead into the half. After trailing by as many as 12 in the second half, Colby battled back with a 16-4 spurt and went up by two. With under one minute to play, Garden City executed an offensive possession up two points that would eventually seal the game, 70-64.
Joshua O'Garro led Colby with 21 points. Mike Bell added 11, while Anthony Sellars provided a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. DaJion Humphrey led Garden City with 21.
Saturday's contest in Goodland also turned out to be a close contest for much of the first half before Northwest Tech went on an 8-0 run to take the upper hand at halftime, 41-32. Colby adjusted in the locker room and held a 54-51 edge by the second media timeout. The Mavericks were able to take advantage of Colby's turnovers in the final ten minutes and finished the game by outscoring Colby 37-24 and held on for the win.
O'Garro provided a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Bell chipped in 17 off the bench, and Elijah Wood added 13. Sellars contributed 9 points and 12 rebounds.
The Mavericks had five players in double figures, led by 19 points each from Taiden Conner and Keyishon Miller.
