KJCCC Football Players of the Week - Week 9
COLBY, Kan. – Ending top-ranked Hutchinson’s 32-game regular season winning streak and 20-game Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference game winning streak that dated back to 2021, Butler Community College has swept the week 9 KJCCC Football Player of the Week honors with Markellus Bass (offensive), Seven Cloud (defensive), and Chevy Edwards (special teams) earning their first honors of the year.
COLBY, Kan. – Ending top-ranked Hutchinson’s 32-game regular season winning streak and 20-game Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference game winning streak that dated back to 2021, Butler Community College has swept the week 9 KJCCC Football Player of the Week honors with Markellus Bass (offensive), Seven Cloud (defensive), and Chevy Edwards (special teams) earning their first honors of the year.
Offensive Player of the Week (Markellus Bass – Butler) - Freshman running back Markellus Bass helped lead the Grizzlies to a 27-22 win over No. 1 Hutchinson. Bass finished with 120 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. On Butler's first possession, Bass ripped off a 59-yard rush on 3rd and 12 to set up a touchdown. Bass has rushed for 100 yards in back-to-back games. The win over the Blue Dragons ended a 20-game KJCCC winning streak for Hutchinson dating back to 2021 and 32-game regular season winning streak for HCC.
Defensive Player of the Week (Seven Cloud - Butler) – Seven Cloud and the number 13 ranked Butler Grizzlies down undefeated number one Hutchinson on Saturday by a score of 27-22. Butler held the Blue Dragons to a season-low 22 points as Cloud finished with 9.0 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and career-high 3.5 sacks. Cloud also added a forced fumble and now has 40 tackles this season including 9.0 tackles for loss.
Special Teams Player of the Week (Chevy Edwards - Butler) – Edwards and the number 13-ranked Grizzlies got a 27-22 win over top-ranked Hutchinson on the road Saturday. Edwards played a huge part in the win as he finished with four punts inside the 20 and two punts downed inside the 5-yard line, helping the Grizzlies win the field position battle all game.
