NJCAA Division 1 Football Week 7 Rankings
CHARLOTTE, NC – Continuing to leave their mark on the NJCAA Division 1 football rankings, the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference has seven of eight teams either ranked or receiving votes for a third straight week as part of the week seven poll released on Monday, October 7th.
Extending their shutout streak for a second-straight game as part of a 42-0 win in their conference opening win over previously number 14-ranked Dodge City, top-ranked Hutchinson is ranked for a 40th consecutive poll to break a tie for their second-longest streak in program history as the Blue Dragons chase down a 45 consecutive poll streak in which they were ranked from 2010-2013. With the number one ranking, Hutchinson has been ranked number one in 34 of the past 60 polls and has been ranked third or better for 35 consecutive polls.
Earning a fifth-straight win to improve to 5-1, Garden City maintains its number six ranking after downing Independence 57-7 on the road to enter their bye week with a 3-0 mark in the KJCCC as only two of the final four games of the season for the Broncbusters will come against conference foes. Despite being idle last week, Butler moves up two spots from number 15 up to 13th as the Grizzlies are currently 2-2 overall with action for BCC resuming this Saturday at Highland. A 33-17 home win over previously number 10-ranked Highland has Coffeyville entering the rankings at number 14, one spot ahead of the number 15-ranked Scotties with the only losses this season for the Red Ravens coming against teams ranked in the top six of the latest rankings. Just outside the top 15 and receiving votes is Dodge City as the Conquistadors will look to bounce back from their road loss at Hutchinson with a home game against Ellsworth Community College on Saturday morning at 11 AM.
The KJCCC is now the only conference to have six teams ranked or receiving votes with no other conference having more than five teams ranked or receiving votes. Also featured in this week’s rankings are five teams ranked or receiving votes from the Mississippi Association Of Community College Colleges Conference, four from the Southwest Junior College Football Conference, Iowa Western as the lone ranked team from the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, and two of the seven independent teams not affiliated with a conference with both ranked in the top five (Georgia Military, Snow College).
Two conference clashes and two non-conference games are on the schedule this weekend with Dodge City hosting Ellsworth at 11 AM and Coffeyville heading to Iowa Central for a 7 PM kickoff in non-conference action as part of the KJCCC/ICCAC scheduling agreement. Games in KJCCC action this week will see number 13 Butler head to number 15 Highland for a 1 PM kickoff while top-ranked Hutchinson heads to Independence for a 1 PM kickoff against the Pirates.
