NJCAA Division 1 Football Week 4 Rankings
CHARLOTTE, NC – Through four weeks of the NJCAA Division 1 football season, four teams from the Kansas Jayhawk Community College hold down spots in the top 15 of the latest NJCAA football rankings released on Monday, September 16th.
After an overtime scare, Hutchinson remains the unanimous number one team in the country as the Blue Dragons were able to outlast now number 15 Iowa Central 33-30 in overtime at home to enter their first bye week of the season with an unblemished 3-0 record. Two of Hutchinson’s three wins have come against ranked foes, including a 38-37 win over two-time defending National Champion and number two-ranked Iowa Western Community College during week two of the season in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Ascending to their highest ranking since joining the KJCCC in 1996, Highland moves up three spots into the top 10 by earning the number eight ranking this week after shutting out their second opponent of the season on Saturday with a 21-0 road win at Ellsworth Community College. The Scotties have allowed a total of 13 points through three games, ranking first in the NJCAA in points per game allowed among schools to have played only NJCAA opponents ahead of their conference opener at home on Saturday against Dodge City Community College.
Moving up three spots after a 29-23 overtime win at Coffeyville on Saturday night, Garden City is the KJCCC leader in the conference standings with both of their wins coming against KJCCC foes to hold a 2-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in the KJCCC. The Broncbusters relied on two defensive touchdowns to earn the win against the Red Ravens and return home for their only home game in the month of September this Saturday when they host Ellsworth for an 11 AM kickoff at Broncbuster Stadium.
Also maintaining a spot in the rankings and moving up one spot to number 14 is Butler Community College as the Grizzlies have won two straight games with both coming in convincing fashion. This past week, Butler went on the road to defeat Independence 41-6 as BCCC has outscored opponents 107-6 over the past two games. This week, Butler will welcome Coffeyville to BG Products Veterans Sports Complex to renew a rivalry that dates back to 1929 with the Red Ravens holding a 51-45-2 overall advantage in the series.
Just three games within the conference take place this week, with Garden City hosting Ellsworth, Highland hosting Dodge City, and Butler hosting Coffeyville as Independence and Hutchinson are both on bye weeks.
