KJCCC Kansas MTXE Men's Basketball Athletes of the Week, Week 1, 2017
Marvin Cannon. Barton, heated up as the week went on to average over seventeen points and seven rebounds in twenty-six minutes per game. Reaching double figures in each of the three contests, Cannon shot 73% from the field including 67% accuracy from beyond the arc while going perfect from the charity stripe in ten throws. Grabbing eight rebounds in his collegiate debut, Cannon matched that feat in Saturday's contest while dropping a career high twenty-five points in twenty-seven minutes of action.
Solomon Thomas, a 5-11 point guard from Hogan Prep in Kansas City, Mo., had a strllar debut in his first season at Kansas City Kansas Community College. In the Blue Devil opener at North Central Missouri Wednesday, Thomas scored 29 points, the second most points ever scored by a KCKCC freshman in his first game. Included in the assault were six 3-pointers (11 attempts) and 11-of-16 in the 89-63 KCKCC win. Thomas followed it up Saturday with 27 points (11-of-22) and three assists in KCKCC's 100-61 home win over Ottawa University's JV.
Anthony Lupardus was the top player for Johnson County in their two losses to nationally ranked teams. In a shocking buzzer beating loss to No. 6 Indian Hills, Lupardus was fantastic finishing with 15 points, four rebounds, seven assists, three steals while committing just one turnover. He followed with a game-high 22 points in a loss to No. 14 Kirkwood the next afternoon. He also had four rebounds, four assists and a steal, and again had just one turnover. For the week, he averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals.
