Day One Recap - Region VI Basketball From Hartman Arena
Here is a short recap of Day One action in the 2018 Region VI Basketball Championship. Sunday featured the men's teams in Hartman Arena.
Game 1
PARK CITY -- The Coffeyville Red Ravens survived a scare from upset-minded Seward in the quarterfinals of the Region VI Men's Tournament at Hartman Arena, 66-61.
Coffeyville, the tournament's No. 1 seed was led by TJ Washington's 28 points on 5-of-9 shooting and an impressive 16-of-21 from the free throw line. Seward was led by Hegel Augustine's 20 points in the loss.
The Red Ravens will now face the winner of Cowley/Garden City in Tuesday's semifinal game at 7 PM.
Game 2
PARK CITY -- The Garden City Broncbusters advanced to the Region VI semifinal with a thrilling 74-73 overtime victory over the Cowley Tigers.
Kendale Hampton knocked down the game winning three-pointer in front of the Broncbusters' bench as time expired. Hampton finished with a team-high 18 points and was one of four GCCC players in double-figures. Cowley was led by Cedric Rembert's 19.
The Broncbusters advance to the Region VI semifinal on Tuesday night at 7 PM against the Coffeyville Red Ravens.
Game 3
PARK CITY -- The Barton Cougars rallied from a double digit deficit in the first half and a strong performance in overtime to defeat the Colby Trojans, 79-72 to move on in the Region VI Tourney.
Kawanise Wilkins led the victorious Cougars with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while also tallying six assists. Colby was led by Xavier Smith with 17 points.
The Cougars advance to Tuesday's semifinal round and will meet the Hutch/Indy winner at 5 PM.
Game 4
PARK CITY -- The Hutchinson Blue Dragons used a strong second half to get by the Independence Pirates in the quarterfinal of the Region VI Tournament, 74-59.
Hutchinson was led by Devonte Bandoo's 24 points and seven rebounds. Bandoo was one of three Blue Dragons in double figures. The Pirates were led by Cameron Clark's 10 points.
The Blue Dragons will face Barton in the Region VI semifinal on Tuesday evening at 5 PM at Hartman Arena.
Day Two at Hartman Arena will feature the Region VI Division I women's squads.
