Johnson County’s Whitehead named Division II Player of the Week
Johnson County sophomore forward Jaland Whitehead averaged a double-double of 16.3 points and 12.7 rebounds while leading the No. 3-ranked Cavaliers to three victories last week, two on the road. He also shot 64 percent from the field and blocked five shots.
Whitehead opened the week with 20 points and 14 rebounds in a 97-85 win over Southeast. He hit 8-of-10 shots with a 3-pointer and was 3-for-6 at the free throw line.
He followed with his eighth double-double of the season in an 88-76 road win against Fort Scott. He was 9-for-10 shooting, finishing with 20 points an 12 rebounds. He also two assists and two blocks.
He capped the week with nine points, 12 rebounds and two blocks in a 66-57 victory at Hesston.
Overall this season Whitehead averages a double-double of 14.4 points and 12.2 rebounds, which leads the conference. His 14.4 points average is tied for sixth in the conference. He also currently ranks third in field goal accuracy at 55.7 percent, and is second in total blocks with 25.
