Barton's Brent Moss, Trevon Hamer Earn NJCAA National Athlete of the Week Honors
CHARLOTTE, NC – A pair of Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference athletes have earned NJCAA National Athletes of the Week honors for Week 9 of the 2024-25 Winter Sports season with Barton Community College men’s basketball player Brent Moss and Barton men’s track and field athlete Trevon Hamer both earning their first national award of the season.
Brent Moss (Barton) - NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week
Brent Moss picks up his first NJCAA Division 1 Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor after turning in his second straight week averaging a double-double with averages of 28.5 points, 68.4 percent shooting, and 12 rebounds. The sophomore from Freeport, Bahamas started his week with a monster performance of 40 points and 20 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season against Independence in an overtime loss. Drawing heavy attention from Coffeyville to end his week, Moss finished with 17 points to lead the Cougars in scoring while hauling in just four rebounds to go along with two assists and two blocks to help Barton earn a home victory over the number 12-ranked Red Ravens.
Trevon Hamer (Barton) – NJCAA Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
Trevon Hamer becomes the first Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference track and field athlete during the 2025 season to earn NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week accolades following two big performances at the Kansas State University Thane Baker Invitational last weekend. Earning an event win in the triple jump with a mark of 15.98 meters (52 ft. – 5.25 in.) to win the event by over two feet over the next closest competitor as his mark is currently the top mark in the NJCAA and 16th best all-time in NJCAA history. Hamer also earned an event win in the 60 meters by running a time of 6.68 seconds to punch his ticket to the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships in March. The time is the fastest in the KJCCC this season and third fastest in the NJCAA this season.
