CHARLOTTE, NC – Results both inside and outside the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference continue to lead to changes in the latest NJCAA Division 1 and 2 Men’s Basketball top 25 polls with Barton reclaiming the top spot in the Division 1 poll and seven total teams ranked or receiving votes in the polls released on Monday, November 18th.
After holding the number two ranking in both the preseason and week 1 rankings, the Cougars once again are back on top after winning their first National Title in program history last year as BCC is off to a 5-0 start this season after picking up wins over Northern Oklahoma-Enid and Harry S. Truman College this past weekend. Following last week’s ascent into the top 10, Butler Community College is once again moving up the polls as the Grizzlies climb another two spots into the number six spot despite being idle last week. More changes to the polls see Cowley as the only other ranked team from the KJCCC in the Division 1 poll by checking in at number 24, a one-spot improvement from last week as the Tigers finished off non-conference action this past weekend with a 117-62 win over Southwestern College JV to go along with their win earlier in the week over Northern Oklahoma-Tonkawa. Among those receiving votes this week is both Garden City and Hutchinson as the Broncbusters had wins on back-to-back nights list week at home (McCook CC, Bethany JV) while the Blue Dragons split a pair of games at the Barton Community College Classic after dropping a home game to Kansas City Kansas in mid-week action.
Things were steadier in the NJCAA Division 2 men’s basketball poll as the top eight remain unchanged from last week while seeing Johnson County move up one spot from 13 up to 12 after winning three games last week which included wins over Palm Beach State and Rock Valley College. Kansas City Kansas makes a move within the latest Division 2 poll by climbing two spots to number 20 as the Blue Devils had a big week with a win at Division 1 previously ranked Hutchinson before dropping a one-point decision to Rock Valley along with a bounce back win over Palm Beach State the following night.
No shortage of action this week across the league as 29 games are scheduled over the next six days which includes the start of KJCCC Division 1 conference play on Wednesday evening which is highlighted by top-ranked Barton hosting Hutchinson. The Cougars will then play on Saturday at Garden City in another battle of a ranked team against a team receiving votes in the top 25 poll while non-conference play continues for Division 2 schools.
